No SEC-CFTC Merger Confirmed, but Crypto Market Structure Bill Targeted for 2025

SEC Chair Paul Atkins dismissed speculation about a merger between the Securities and Exchange Commission and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission during a Fox Business interview. "My hands are full right now," Atkins stated, while emphasizing close collaboration between the agencies. The two regulators plan to participate in a joint roundtable on September 29.

Atkins confirmed the White House has set 2025 as the deadline for passing comprehensive cryptocurrency market structure legislation. The SEC is currently providing technical support to Congressional lawmakers on securities law matters and addressing regulatory gaps. "It's really incumbent on the two agencies to work hand in glove," Atkins remarked, particularly regarding digital asset oversight.
